Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) offers an integrated and comprehensive range of services consisting of workforce development activities benefiting employers, job seekers, and communities by providing individuals with barriers to employment the access to employment, education, and training opportunities along with access to support services needed to succeed in the labor market. It improves the quality and labor market relevance of workforce investment, education and economic development efforts to provide individuals with the skills and credentials necessary to secure and advance in employment with family sustaining wages, and to provide employers with the skilled workers needed to succeed in a global economy.
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Serves 3 groups
Low Income Adults
Adults 18 years old and up who are unemployed or underemployed and need help with training or other assistance to move into a job that will support them and their families.
Dislocated Workers
Adults who have lost their jobs due to downsizing, loss of contracts, financial difficulty, technology upgrades, relocation, etc, and need training or other assistance to move into a job that will support them and their families
Low Income Youth
The WIOA Youth program prepares eligible youth ages 14 to 24 for post-secondary education and employment opportunities, helps them attain educational and/or skills training credentials, and provides career opportunities.
